Cloud Cities Barcelona

Torre Glòries, Barcelona, Spain · 2022 · Studio Tomás Saraceno, with Bollinger+Grohmann

An artwork of tensioned cables and panels that visitors walk into, suspended in the dome of a Barcelona tower and held by 5000 nodes.

Cloud Cities Barcelona is an artwork by Tomás Saraceno in the dome at the top of Torre Glòries. Visitors move through a network of tensioned cables and panels suspended high above the city, and see Barcelona from a new angle. Bollinger+Grohmann engineered the structure and supervised its installation between 2019 and 2022.

How COMPAS was used

The engineers built the cable-net design workflow on Grasshopper, Kangaroo and COMPAS, as described in their paper at the TensiNet Symposium 2023.
